We had a tool of a boss back in the day at Allstate. In his first propaganda talk, he said, "Employees are our most important resource". Just after this, he stated, "We work hard but we know how to play hard too".

And the way the employees are treated contributes to the mistreatment of animals as well. It's known that many workers lash out their frustration on more vulnerable beings. It's a systematic problem.

I was a butcher and I would have 30 + cuts on each hand. Gloves made it worse so that would increase with an open cut. I was a teen who used a bone saw or band saw. I would get high before every shift. My boss would talk shit then send me out. I was real fast but I’m lucky I kept all my fingers.

@NEMO fishZ why does the racial make up of anyone matter? These are unskilled laborers, liberals are the ones importing them from outside the country, what should we expect to find in unskilled positions? You people turn everything into a race war simply to divide and conquer. If not along racial lines it’s along supposed moral lines. I refuse to fall for it.

Man..what kind of people must the majority of these in house nurses be to be knowingly complicit in these terrible conditions. I understand they may be in similar situations to the lowest of the workers in that they may be desperate for their jobs too. But, personally, if it were me I could/would put up with a lot of the same shit the regular workers do if I were as desperate as they must be. But if I was asked to close my eyes to _other_ people getting hurt like this? That I couldn't do no matter how desperate I was.

Once again ,the starting ad is on point. What the fk does a rabid gerbil have to do with packaged food? No clue, don't care. Its just epic. Also, america never ceases to amaze me. Land of the free indeed. To think we take lessons from them is actually amazing.

I live about 35 miles from the JBS swift plant in Greeley CO, that John was talking about here, and in the past 25 years I’ve met hundreds of people that worked there for one amount of time or another and I’ve never heard someone tell me a good story to come out of that place, everyone has a story and they’re all disgusting, awful, or terrifying. I think that is just that industry, it’s a awful industry, where we do horrible things to delicious animals. I personally choose not to pay attention to what we do to animals at these plants and as for the human element... I honestly care more about the animals than I do the humans, people can always quit.

      1. seigeengine

The problem is people can't exactly just quit. People need money, so they need to work, and the people these plants cater to are people that don't have a lot of options. Remember, humans are just modestly clever animals with delusions they're cleverer still.

    50. Mikita Zhylinski

      Arise ye victims of oppression....

    51. Annita Eleanor

What upsets me even more is that most people who choose to be vegetarian or vegan don't do it for the workers, but for the animals. Even people who say they care about the meatpacking industry aren't valuing the workers.

    52. Rita Marie Kelley

    61. Bill Weeks

How much are you willing to pay for your chicken breast or ham steak? Better conditions will cost a significant amount of money. And being a publicly traded company there is no way that they would not pass along the cost. I believe the root of this corporate evil starts with the stock exchange. When you are listed, you answer to your board of directors, who are major share holders, and the public shareholders as well. Everyone in the market wants hourly profits on their investments. Nobody holds stocks as a long-term investment anymore. Taking a company private is always a good move for a company and it's employees.

I worked two summers in a chicken processing plant in the 90s, and I still have pretty serious issues from the RMI I got. I saw a lot of minor and moderate injuries, nearly daily, and a couple of significant injuries. Generally, they were the result of a worker being irresponsible and cutting corners or clowning around, but some were clearly due to sheer fatigue or the sometimes unreasonable speed demanded by the floor supervisors.

    70. Kuroda Cursus

This is what happens when companies get away with being considered a 'person' under the law. They get reasonable fines for an individual, but not a mass producing capitalistic behemoth. They should start being charged x2 the hospital fees for the workers harmed in their plant. That'll easily reach in a satisfactory amount.

      1. seigeengine

If an individual brought in $50B a year, they should also get more than $15k in fines for killing six people.

    84. R C

I work for a meat processing business. I get paid great and our company has taken very good care of all of us. Not Tyson, but it's a very large company. I don't know how Tyson does their thing, but our company has given us multiple pay raises, provided PPE, testing and started medical leave before the government required it. We've gotten bonuses, they pay for our medical insurance. The whole nine. So, I'm just saying it's unfair to label the entire industry this way.

      1. We are all born mad

    89. Holland Green

Everything he says is true and it’s not nearly as bad as it really. The meat processing companies have the plant workers backs against the walls as well as the farmers contracted to them. It’s hard to imagine worst working conditions except for a war zone a concentration camp or a Haitian prison.

    90. T Lindsay

The amount of respect I have lost for your work after finding out you’re associated with the next for autism event is astronomical. If you can’t do the one google search it takes to listen to autistic voices on this matter, then I dont trust you to properly research your stories. Nothing about us, without us!

      1. seigeengine

@T Lindsay _Their primary mission is to research the cause and cure of Autism, in no uncertain terms, let me be clear - that is code for eugenics because finding the cause leads to terminating pregnancies solely on the basis of them resulting in an autistic child, and because Autism is a neurotype, not a disease, there is no cure._ *Let me be clear. That is not code for eugenics, and the emotional nature of this argument is pathetic. Whether autism is a disease or not is a pointless argument about words, and not worth the time.* _The only "cure" is to eliminate or restructure the entire brain, which is not possible to do to a human being and would result in their death._ *This is the second time you have come to an extreme absurd emotionally manipulative conclusion. Don't do that.* _They have also engaged in harmful propaganda targeted at parents of newly diagnosed children, notoriously their "I am Autism" campaign in 2009, that engages in harmful stereotypes about autistics that absolutely dehumanize us and work to shape how our own families view us before we have any tools to advocate for ourselves._ *The only actual argument here is equally true of literally all knowledge about persons of any kind. Are you even trying to make a decent point?* _They also use these propaganda methods to push ABA therapy which is considered by many autistics to be abusive with some centers such as the JRC, which the The American Human Rights Organization and Disability Rights organization tried to have shut down for torture, heavily endorsed by Autism Speaks._ *ABA is not a specific thing, and basically seems to me to be a fancy word for conditioning. Essentially, the same stuff you'd do with a pet... except, in reality, humans constantly condition each other with a complex array of positive and negative stimuli to attempt to shape each other's behaviour. That this can be done harmfully or involving inflicting suffering is true, but reducing the whole to certain examples is absurd.* _Since the announcement of the livestream fundraiser both organizations have heavily edited their websites to the point of near gaslighting those of us who have been trying to call attention to the matter._ *I didn't find any evidence of this, though I did not really look that hard. It's not really central to the issue either way.* _I haven't even touched on the funding of these organizations, because so many other people have done it better, rest assured, nearly none of the money donated to these so called charities or fundraises actually goes to any autistics people or even their families who may be struggling to pay for therapies and treatments that may actually be improving their lives._ *This criticism is only valid if the charities claim that is where the money is going. It would be naive to assume that just because a charity has to do with autism that the donated money is going to directly help specific autistic people.* _Then there is also the matter of Mark Rober himself, the host of the event, and his video "The Truth About My Son", he engages in harmful stereotyping such as infantilizing disabled people with the narrative that we "show us [able-bodied] people the little things that are important] and by saying that disable people cannot succeed to his definition of success._ *He is specifically addressing a sub-categorization of disabled people who are unable to meet the same standards of success most of us place upon ourselves. The amusing part about your nonsensical point here is that people who are able to meet those same standards are inherently not who he's talking about in the first place.* *He also emphasized how experiencing this personally helped broaden his perspective of what constitutes success and makes life worth living.* *The funniest part of your arguments here, is you're basically acting as if all autistic people are completely capable of functioning in ordinary human society, and standing up to general expectations of other human beings, as otherwise your entire narrative falls apart as a nigh-genocidal attempt to neglect the... heh, SPECTRUM of autistic people, and the realities of how to ensure their well-being.* _He also did not remove footage of another persons autistic daughter even after asked repeatedly to do so, only blurred her face._ *Cry me a fucking river.*

@T Lindsay There is no special significance to any human's opinion on anything that is not subjective and about their perspective. Waffling about subjects we're not discussing is not going to lend any credibility to your assertion that people should simply agree with you without critical thought. I will, however, respond, because I feel like dunking on an asshole right now.

@seigeengine OK so it has come to my attention through a few replies that people don't necessarily know where to find this information, and your right one google search without the right terms wont produce the information. Bear with me there is a lot of history here that not too many people know about so I'll try to give a brief run down. A really good source of information that explains it in easy sound bites are @beckspectrum and @paigelayle on TikTok, @the.Autisticats on Instagram also have fantastic compilations of information and links to the evidence for all of the info below. Next for Autism is inextricably linked with Autism Speaks, an organization that the autistic community at large, myself included, considers to be a hate group, and their blue puzzle piece a hate symbol. Their primary mission is to research the cause and cure of Autism, in no uncertain terms, let me be clear - that is code for eugenics because finding the cause leads to terminating pregnancies solely on the basis of them resulting in an autistic child, and because Autism is a neurotype, not a disease, there is no cure. The only "cure" is to eliminate or restructure the entire brain, which is not possible to do to a human being and would result in their death. They have also engaged in harmful propaganda targeted at parents of newly diagnosed children, notoriously their "I am Autism" campaign in 2009, that engages in harmful stereotypes about autistics that absolutely dehumanize us and work to shape how our own families view us before we have any tools to advocate for ourselves. They also use these propaganda methods to push ABA therapy which is considered by many autistics to be abusive with some centers such as the JRC, which the The American Human Rights Organization and Disability Rights organization tried to have shut down for torture, heavily endorsed by Autism Speaks. @seigeengine So you felt the need to reply to an autistic persons comment by saying you feel there is no importance to hear autistic voices on issues that affect the autistic community? Please make that make sense. No matter Ill repost a comment I made in response to someone else who was a bit confused on the matter below since you are too short sightedly privelidged to do the googling yourself, or to understand the idea of unpaid labour provided by minorities

      5. seigeengine

@T Lindsay I know this is going to sound really mean: but I don't give a shit what autistic people think on the matter. Their opinions are not of any particular consequence. Either command my respect by proving me wrong, or piss off. Nobody's voice is more privileged than any others.

    91. The Opinion of Matt

Fun fact!: In 2008 or 9, I had cooked a grocery store brand chicken patty and put it on a hamburger bun with ketchup and was eating it for lunch. I bit down on something that was in the chicken patty that wasn't meat. I pulled it out of my mouth and looked at it. It very much in appearance and feel resembled a acrylic fingernail. I immediately lost my appetite and threw away the rest of my sandwich. A week later I threw the rest of bag of chicken patties into the woods behind the house, having not eaten another one and coming to the conclusion that I never would. I've never bought another bag of chicken patties of that brand. After this video, I'm more convinced that I've probably eaten part of someone's finger. We stopped buying anything from Tyson after the story about the managers placing bets.

      1. We are all born mad

Consider giving up meat in general. Clearly it's not better in other companies.

    92. Alexn Andum

You forgot Betty White on that list.

    93. Joshua Cabezas

5:18 I’m mad they used “oink hub” instead of fucking pork hub or pornhog or some shit

    94. Custom Money

30 years. That man gave up 30 years of his life and they sold him out over being too cheap to follow safety protocol. My chest hurts.

    95. Mimi 78

Awww... remember when the US only had 256k dead

    96. Ethan Gatenby

Worst part is that on top of all this they have to cut dead birds into pieces hundreds, if not thousands of times per day

      1. seigeengine

At the speeds mentioned it's more likely over ten thousand a day.

    97. Hannah Morrisey

it's insane how we have gotten to the point in history where we care more about how the animals in the meat industry than the actual people who work in it... *facepalm*

    98. Jeff Kalyta

this reeks of the Koch Bros

    99. Cody McCollum

As a factory worker I can confirm yeah shits fucked up man, I got second degree burns all over my left hand when I was 22 and they tried to stop me from going to the hospital, kept demanding I admit it was my own fault and that I wouldn’t be able to get workmans comp for it, and then made me go to a doctor hand picked by the factory who they could then had a company liaison sit in on all my appointments taking away any doctor patient confidentiality because they were looking to fire me and hoping I’d fail a drug test or get something else to document on me

Now I am not a expert on food processing logistics and pricing. But for a 1.5$ 5$ a hog 20$ a cow all these employees could be provided with fair and equitable healthcare/ insurance policy. A increase in pay and better working conditions with a little to spare.
